The Music of Creation

Earth is the only source of music in the universe. It acts as a narcotic for aliens, creating a lucrative market for abducted musicians. When a young composer creates music that alters space, the Thalesian Protectorate sends an inexperienced girl on her first mission to save Ryan Reilly and his family from the Abductor cartel before Ryan’s ability ruptures the universe.

Excerpt from The Music of Creation -

Bridget (Mother of Irish composer Ryan): “But, Lindsey, if music is so valuable, why can’t you just make your own?”

Lindsey (Alien from Thales): “If that were possible, I would not be here. Certainly, we have computers that can place notes together and make what sounds like music, but it is not the same. When humans play, they tap into the fundamental properties of the universe, releasing extraordinary energy. For some species it has intoxicating effects, for others it accelerates growth and stimulates cognitive ability."

Star Rating: 5 / 5

In their ambitious and meticulously crafted collaborative debut, The Music of Creation, Paul J. Knight and Chris Allen present a science fiction epic that reimagines humanity’s most abstract art form—music—as the most coveted resource in the galaxy. Drawing from their diverse professional backgrounds in botany, archaeology, and creative composition, the authors construct a universe where a simple melody is far more than entertainment; it is a cosmic currency capable of shifting the balance of power across star systems.

The Music of Creation is a testament to the power of collaboration. It is a professional and polished piece of speculative fiction that manages to be both an action-packed thriller and a poignant family drama. For readers who appreciate hard science fiction seasoned with a deep appreciation for the arts, Knight and Allen have composed a magnificent overture to a truly resonant series.

REVIEWS

I really like this book. The concept of music as a narcotic that is only created on earth, but has entranced the entire galaxy, sets up a conflict between two groups of aliens: Protectors and Abductors. The real tension is happening over the heads of the human race, with most of us being a little clueless. ... I know I did and it’s not a genre I usually read! Looking forward to more from this creative writing team.
